چکیده
Introduction: Hyperthermia (HT) in cancer management refers to the external application of heat raise intratumoural temperature between 39°C and 45°C. Locoregional hyperthermia (LRHT) is most used studied type HT care. A literature search was conducted produce a monograph help clinicians patients make informed choices considering this therapy.
Methods: performed Medline Cochrane library for LRHT May 2020. Eligible studies were English-language clinical reporting on efficacy, quality life (QoL), safety, or feasibility. Additional cursory scoping identify missing papers background information. Papers independently screened by two reviewers. Following development full monograph, condensed version suitable publication created presented here.
Results: total 980 articles identified 166 met inclusion criteria. Most single-arm observational. However, among 166, there 7 systematic reviews (including 37 RCTs) 18 additional RCTs identified. Several mechanisms action have been proposed care including physiological changes, direct cytotoxic effects, chemosensitization radiosensitization, immune modulation. primarily as an adjunct chemotherapy radiotherapy due its possible synergistic effects. Various demonstrated improved outcomes treated with chemo-and/or-radiotherapy. The best evidence disease control survival seen breast (locally recurrent), cervical cancer, esophageal gastric cancers, head neck squamous cell carcinoma, high-risk soft tissue sarcoma. Research related (QoL) limited often focuses pain. modern technology treatment planning generally well tolerated; common side effects are discomfort, mild pain, local erythema, skin burns, and, less commonly, subcutaneous burns. Trial heterogeneity methodological concerns limit strength conclusions.
Conclusions: promising variety types. To determine what situations therapy could be applied, more high-quality well-controlled needed.
